A real life marriage proposal becomes a music video – oh what a good idea. David, the groom,  met his girlfriend Saskia six years ago at one of the band Revolverheld’s concerts in Berlin so it would be a perfect match. He is the lead singers best friend and they know each other since birth.

The major challenges were that they could only play the song once and everything had to work out. Sound, playing live, timing – everything had to be perfect. And nobody really knew how Saskia would react…
We catch up with the director Paul Gerwien who shot the video and ask how his careered has evolved since winning the European Test Commercial in 2009 with the very funny Robbery – see below.

What have been the highlights from winning the European Test Commercial award  at the YDA to having your own production company now?

Puh…it’s been five years now and a lot of stuff I can’t remember due to heavy drinking. Winning the YDA in 2009 with the other Grøbert still feels pretty good. It put us on the horizon within a few days and it really took off. The other big thing is definetely having my own production company Bears Calling now (together with my partner Anna Honerlagen, who is the sober one).
Oh and my dancing skills have really improved.

What have been the key lessons that you have learnt about film making?

Get good people around you. People whose opinion you respect and who will tell you the truth no matter what! Don’t drink too much & don’t take yourself too seriously and always write your Room Number on your Hotel Key Card or you will end up in the wrong room.
