With the YDA 2024 deadline fast approaching on April 10th, we have been busy assembling a world class jury from across the globe for this year’s 27th edition. We take great care with our juries to ensure they represent as wide a range as possible across the industry, encompassing directors, production companies and agencies.
In its early stages, the YDA was oriented towards commercial film production. 27 years later, it has grown into an award with seventeen different categories, from animation, to documentaries to series. As such, we have selected an eclectic jury to reflect the multitude of talent we attract.
Our 2024 jury will be chaired by Medb Riordan, Joint Managing Director, Partner and Executive Producer at Academy Films London.
Speaking in her interview with shots the other month, Medb underscores both Academy’s and her own personal commitment to promoting and nurturing young creative talent:
‘There is always a generation of new talent coming through, and that’s in the title of the company; Academy. It’s in our DNA, so it’s in my DNA. So, getting an opportunity to support the next generation, and also to understand what’s being made was really key. Not only is it exciting for us to be able to find that upcoming generation of talent, but for them to teach us about what’s happening next.
It’s my hope, with Francois’ [Chilot, YDA President] support, to find a jury that sits both within and also outside of the advertising industry. Financiers, film producers, directors… because it’s exciting for those people to see what’s coming through. The commercials industry has fed the film industry, and vice versa. I think it’s becoming increasingly more like that, and it’s exciting for us to share the talent, and to share ideas.’
