YDA CHATS Episode 4: Mary Nighy

This week on YDA CHATS… Mary Nighy

The YDA winner and 2020 Jury member talks about creativity in lockdown, the experience of winning a YDA and this year’s ‘Dreampitch’ category.

Mary Nighy, a UK-based director, is currently directing an episode of Industry, a new series written by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, and executive produced by Lena Dunham, for HBO and Bad Wolf. In the summer of 2019, Mary directed three episodes of the new TV show Traces, for Red Productions, written by Amelia Bullmore and starring Laura Fraser, Molly Windsor and Daniel Compston.

Mary was the David Lean Scholar on the Directing Fiction Course at the National Film and Television School, and her short films have screened at festivals internationally, winning the Best Directing prize at St. Petersburg IYFF, and nominated for Best Short at Raindance Film Festival and Miami ISFF.

Her short film Handprint won a Young Director Award in Cannes in 2014.
