On your marks, get set, get entering. The Call for Entries for the Young Director Award 2011 is officially open – and for the very first time you can submit work for our brand new music video category.

Adam Bonke took 1st place in the European broadcast category in 2010

Following on from the run away success of last year’s competition, which saw creative commercials, pioneering interactive web films and stunning fashion look books pick up awards, we’re on the hunt for this year’s most inspiring work from aspiring directors.

Shortlisted directors can look forward to having their work screened to influential industry insiders and winners will be featured in shots magazine and DVD. Just the thing to kick start a career – just ask previous winners, such as Neill Blomkamp, Chris Cairns, Ringan Ledwidge and Aleksander Bach who have gone on to become established directors. Plus there’s 3,000 metres of 35mm Kodak film up for grabs.

Simon Ellis’ hard hitting interactive project took first prize in European Web Films

As even the competition is divided into European and Non-European work. There are six categories Divided into two sections (European and Non-European), the YDA includes 6 categories: Broadcast commercials; Web films; Branded short films; Film school commercials; Test commercials; and for the first time ever in YDA history, Music video.

Winners will be chosen by a panel of established producers from the CFP-E as well as Lyndy Stout, editor at large for Shots magazine and this here humble blog. Winners will be announced on Wednesday 22nd in Cannes.

To enter, go to www.youngdirectoraward.com. The deadline for entries is April 15th.
As ever we have one important submission rule films that are submitted have to be among the first four commercials ever made by a director the year preceding the award.
