Catch up: Tom Geraedts

We love to keep tabs on new directors who we’ve discovered and way back in November 2009 we first posted an interview with Dutch-born Tom Geraedts. Based in London, Geraedts has been working with M-I-E, which is now repped by Hungryman, and has managed to complete this 3D video for dancescene artist Armin van Buuren in his spare time.

“We had to complete the video in three weeks, which meant crazy hours, but I loved every bit of it. It is funny how the job came to me, about two years ago I saw him playing live and I was disappointed with the visuals that played during his gig. The day after I created a project folder called ‘Armin van Buuren’ on my mac but I never contacted him. Much later I got contacted by a friend who was working for him.

“Trance music could be classified as accessible music, full of euphoric moments, high-pitched synths and piano tunes. The trance-crowd loves these things, so the video had to match. It was a lot of fun to actually put it all in there, landscapes, energy waves, solar flares, all for the sake of that euphoria that the trance ravers would love. And it worked. Seeing the flag of their country makes them go wild!

The design and 3D modelling of the characters and spaceship was done by Dancefoundation.com. I also got some help with the illustrations from my friend Joep Gerrits.”
