Entries open for the YDA 2022

YDA 2022 has opened its doors for the next wave of advertising’s directorial talent.

The YDA 2022, organised in association with shots, is now open for entries.

The YDA jury will this year be chaired by The Corner Shop’s Founder and Executive Producer, Anna Hashmi, with the competition recognised as one of the most prestigious awards shows for – and accurate indicators of – aspiring directing talent in the advertising industry.

There are two new categories introduced for 2022, the Best Use of Music category and the Documentary category, both of which have an introductory 50% off the entry fee, and you can find out more about all of the categories, criteria and details on the awards entry site.

The deadline for early bird entry is March 28. For a full list of prices, including Multiple Entry discounts, please click here.

The YDA attracts hundreds of global entrants each year and celebrates and rewards new directors from across the globe. Previous YDA winners include such talented and successful directors as Hanna Maria Heidrich, Andreas Roth, We Are From LA, and many more.

Also, alongside the main YDA competition, the YDA is again running a pre-event contest to further highlight new directing talent in which entrants need to create a short film, the brief for which is simply, ‘Born to Create Drama’.

The films can be anything up to three minutes long and it is up to each director to set the tone; from humorous to scary, exciting to unsettling, sombre to upbeat…as long as it makes us sit up and pay attention.

The films will be judged by the YDA Team and our favourites will be posted on our social media for all the world to see, with an overall winner picked in May. If entrants are eligible, all showcased entries will be entered into the relevant category in the main competition free of charge.

‘Born to Create Drama’ is open to everyone, whether you’re a young director or not, whether you’re filming alone on your phone, or going traditional and getting a film crew involved. View last year’s winning entry to the ‘Born to Create Drama’ competition.
